I didn't know what to do. All I could think of was to call Todd. I called him and he picked up when I was about to leave a message on the answering machine. There were more knocks on the door.
"Todd! Help me please. The guy that raped me is at the door. Please Todd!" I was in tears.
"Leah, don't open the door. I'll be there as fast as I can." He hung up. There were more bangs on the door. I silently cried.
Just then, the door busted open, and there he was. The man with the bald head and the goatee. The one with the baggy clothes and the army jacket. The one that had raped me. I screamed and he rushed over and covered my mouth. I bit it and ran upstairs, not sure what to do next. I could tell the man was hurt, and that he was trying to put the door back up. I locked my bedroom door as I heard him coming up the stairs. I cried like crazy. He used something to unlock the door and came in and closed the door behind him. He cornered me and took off my clothes, as well as his. I struggled and screamed.
He pushed me down on my bed and got on me. Then, the door was kicked open and there was Todd.
He was holding a gun. "Get off of her." He said while holding the gun towards him. The man laughed with his big voice.
"So, my girl's got a boyfriend." His voice startled me, even after hearing it. Just as he said that, I kneed him in the nuts and got out from under him. I pulled on my robe and the guy started coming after me again.
Todd stepped in front of me just as the man reached me. He had the gun to the man's chest. The man stopped in his tracks. He held up his hands.
"Hey man, I didn't mean no trouble." The man backed away, grabbing his clothes.
"I should kill you!" Todd's voice scared me. He was angry, very angry. I had never seen him that way. Before Todd had the chance to shoot the man, he had already made his way out to the hallway and downstairs. We watched the man, who was still naked, run down the sidewalk. When he was out of sight, Todd turned around, dropped the gun, and hugged me. I was still crying.
"I was so scared I would show up too late." Todd's voice was soft again. That's when he pulled me closer and gave me a kiss.
"But you didn't." I said when we came up for air. He looked at me.
"Where's Leila?" He asked.
"My dad fired her. She said she would be coming today." That's when we heard footsteps running up the stairs. Leila appeared in my doorway looking out in the hallway.
"What happened? The door was broken down and.." Then she turned to me. She ran to me,"Oh my God, I'm sorry I wasn't here sooner. What happened?" I didn't know how she could tell something happened. Was it because of the robe?
She took me over to the bed. "You stay here, I'm getting ice." I turned to Todd.
"Look in the mirror." Was all he said. I did. Somehow, I had managed to get a black eye. I turned back to Todd, who has small tears forming in his eyes. He walked to me,"I can't lose you, Leah. I won't let it happen."
Leila walked in the room. She took me back over to the bed and held the ice on my eye. It stung. I told her what had happened and she said,"It's all my fault. I should have been here sooner." She cradled her head with the hand she had free.
"It's not your fault, Leila. It's that jerk's." I told her. I could tell she didn't believe me. She looked over at Todd, who was still standing and said,"Thank you." Like she was my mom. Todd shrugged.
"Okay Todd. Go home and put something nice on." Leila said. Todd looked confused. I was confused myself. Leila rolled her eyes and said,"You guys need to be together before you leave." She directed this to me. To Todd she said,"I'm gonna get Leah all fixed up while you're at your house. Meet us here at 7:00." Todd was reluctant to leave, but eventually did.
Leila fixed the door, and then she started getting me ready. She let me borrow one of her dresses. We both wore the same size because Leila wasn't very tall. The dress was an aqua color, and showed some cleavage. She curled my long, brown hair and then tucked some behind my ear and smiled at my reflection. It took a long time, but after adding a bunch of cover up, you could barely see my black eye. She added my makeup, eyeshadow, mascara, eyeliner, blush...you name it.
"Am I good? Or am I good?" I was speechless. It was perfect. I really did look pretty. All I could think of at the moment, was how much I loved Todd.
