When Todd rang the doorbell, my heart beated faster than it ever had before. I had butterflies that just wouldn't go away. Leila was downstairs making dinner. Apparently, she got the door, because I heard Todd's voice.
I peeked downstairs. Leila was telling Todd to wait right there. Then, loudly, Leila said,"Presenting, the one and only, Leah Denna!!!" I guess this was my cue.
I walked down the stairs slowly. Todd's eyes were on me. His hands were in his pockets and he was smiling at me. Leila left when I made it down the stairs.
"You look beautiful." He smiled at me and I blushed. He was wearing a plain suit, which he looked very good in.
"You don't look so bad yourself." I told him. He continued to grin.
"So, let me understand this plan. We're eating here?"
"Yep. Leila's cooking."
"Is she a good cook?" He raised his eyebrows.
"I don't know. I guess we'll find out." We smiled at each other and sat down on the couch. We started watching a movie(Leila had picked one out for us), when Todd said something.
"This is our last night together." He said sadly.
"It's not forever. We'll see each other." We were both sad.
"Then I guess we should enjoy it the most." He finally said and I smiled.
Leila walked out and said,"Order up!" and left the room. Todd and I got up and went to the dining room. All that was on the dining table was tons and tons of food. Leila had three plates.
"I'll be getting my food and moving the couch." She grabbed some chicken, mashed potatoes, and a chocolate mousse.
"I guess this means she's a good cook." Todd said. I couldn't help but laugh. Leila turned around and gave Todd a dirty look.
"Were you doubting my cooking capabilities?" Leila said.
"She started it." Todd said in a playful voice, pointing at me. We all laughed and Leila went out to the living room.
Todd and I sat down and started eating. We were quiet at first, then we started talking about everything. We talked about how pretty the snow was gonna be when it fell in a month, we talked about me leaving, we talked about Christmas, and how he was gonna come up and stay for a maybe a week, and we talked about the stars.
When we saw a falling star, Todd wished that the baby and me wouldn't get hurt and I wished Todd wouldn't get hurt. When we were done eating, we found that Leila had fallen asleep on the couch.
We did the dishes together and went outside to the swinging bench, where we sat together and kissed. We turned on the radio and let the music play. Todd got up and asked,"May I have this dance?" I blushed and we danced together under the stars and light of the moon. Everything seemed so perfect. I forgot about all the bruises I had, I forgot I had gotten pregnant because I was raped, and I forgot that tomorrow I would be escaping and leaving Todd behind.
