The gel on my stomach felt weird. The ultrasound technician was a woman. She was nice. The woman didn't ask where all the bruises came from. I guess I had done a good job covering them up with the coverup I used on my black eye. I hoped that the gel wouldn't wipe the coverup away.
The woman moved this little thing, that looked kinda like a giant razor(without the razor), around my stomach. Finally, we saw the baby.
I could see it's head(which looked huge!!!) and it's body. It was small. The woman asked a few questions and told me the baby would be born around June fifth. Soon, she wiped the gel off after taking the pictures, and I got up. I was already getting a little fatter every single day.
She gave me the pictures, and I went to the hallway while Leila, her mom, and Maddie talked to the ultrasound technician. I took out the phone I had stolen from Leila's pocket and called Todd.
"Hello?" It was Todd. It seemed odd that his parents never answered. I didn't think of it much more than that.
"It's me, Leah. They took the pictures."
"Really? What did it look like?" He seemed curious.
"It had a big head." He laughed a little.
"So, do you know the phone number of the place your staying yet? Or maybe the address?" I told him the number and the address, which I had asked Leila earlier, and we said goodbye.
"Remember, anytime you need me, call me." He said that over and over, before he finally hung up.
I closed the phone and Leila, Patty, and Maddie all came out of the room. We walked down the halls as I looked at the picture of the baby. It reminded me of...well kinda like a seamonkey. It may not have been pretty, but it would be. They couldn't determine the gender of the baby yet, but I wanted it to be a surprise anyway.
We got in the car and drove back home. Well, to the apartment. It didn't feel right to call it home yet. To me, it just wasn't home at all. I wondered at that moment what it would be like when my father got home and realized I wasn't there. Would he be mad? God, what am I talking about? Of course he'd be mad. He'd beat me until all of my bones were broken, and my intestine was sticking out. Sorry for the gory picture in the mind, but I'd be the one looking like that.
That night, I sat in my new bed, looking at the pictures of the baby. All the sudden I felt something. Did the baby just kick? It did it again. Oh my God, it's kicking. At that moment, I really wanted to call Todd.
Sadly, I ended up calling Todd.
"Hello? Leah? Is that you?" He sounded groggy. "Is something wrong? Did something happen?" He suddenly sounded awake.
"No, no. Todd it kicked." I whispered to him.
"What?! Someone's kicking you?" He almost shouted.
"No, Todd. The baby, it kicked." I smiled to myself and I heard him breathe a sigh of relief. I moved my hand over my stomach. Would it kick again? It was magical.
"Is..is that good?" Obviously, Todd had no experience with babies.
"Yea...Todd it was magical." I was still smiling as I whispered to Todd.
"I wish I was there." He said. He sounded sad. The baby kicked again, but this time it hurt. The baby was kicking my bruises. I breathed out in pain."Leah? Is something wrong?" He was concerned again. Todd....you gotta love him.
"No, no...the baby just kicked one of my bruises." I said softly. Then, I started getting emotional again. It came to me like a wave, and it blasted over me. I suddenly felt I needed to ask Todd the following question:"Todd, do you love me?" I know, I know. This was a crazy question, because he always told me how much he loved me. I just felt like I needed a hug, or a kiss, or something that made me feel loved.
"Of course I do, Leah." Oh God, you will not believe what happened next: I started crying.
"I just feel like you aren't here for me." I sobbed. I was suddenly hungry,"And you never have time to be with me." I was crying full on now. I couldn't stop.
"Leah, what are you talking about?" I could hear the sadness in his voice,"What's wrong?" He asked soon after.
"And..and...I..I.." I was crying so much that now I couldn't speak.
"Leah, stay there. I'm coming." He hung up and I continued crying? God, this is WORSE than PMS. I looked at the clock, which screamed back at me,"1:34". I had just called Todd at one in the morning. He has to hate me.
I went out to the kitchen and looked in the fridge. I found the perfect thing. Chocolate cake.
I sat down by the fridge and ate the cake. Three hours later, I heard quiet knocks on the door. I opened the door, and there stood Todd. He had a red shirt on and a pair of pj pants. I looked up. He had a black eye.
